WoW Forums: Kalgan on the Dead Zone
This is unexpected! Kalgan says that Blizzard intends to … well, I’ll just let him say it:
We’re planning to shrink the min range on ranged attacks to reduce or eliminate the “dead zone”. The only point to the dead zone was to ensure the min range on ranged weapons was enough such that ranged weapon attacks wouldn’t be used while also being melee’d (at least by mobs… players have a bit of slush built in).
In other news, I’m having to do actual work today (for money and everything!), but I should be able to get more time on the PTR tonight.

Interesting.
ss for PTR that was a nightmare last night. Finally got in, but char copy is dead in the water. took hours just to get in where i could create a character, but would rather have a copy. no premades. all the attempts I made to copy a character failed. now the copy page is:
The character copy queue is currently full.
Please check back later. We apologize for any inconvenience cause and thank you for your understanding.
ah well. be nice one of these days to try out some of those features in 2.3
YAY! i <3 blizz now
My mage is sooooo gonna die now. That makes two classes I won’t have a chance in the Nether to beat.
Meanwhile my hunters are cheering and jumping up and down.
No mention of when this plan will be implemented though…is anyone seeing it on the PTR?
Agree with Zball about poor mages after this change. I’ll have to check their forums, they gotta be real uptight over this. I almost always try to fit scatter shot into a build to have some defense against mages. I had always hoped they would add pistols as a weapon with no dead zone, but a restricted range - it would make taking horde towers in AV a lot easier. But I can see how this will do all that without a big disruption.
I don’t believe that this is currently implemented on the PTR. (My level 1 Blood Elf hunter still has a dead zone anyway!) From the context, I get the feeling it might be more like 2.3 … but we’ll see. 2.3 is probably going to be in testing for quite a while.
A friend of mine read this somewhere yesterday and he said, “Oh, well if they do that they should at least reduce the hunter’s ranged attack power in close quarters.” So, I asked him, “Do you think if I shot you in the face at point-blank range, that it would do less damage than say from 30 feet away?” He got quite, then solemnly replied with, “Good point.” LOL
