Bad Luck with the Harvest Festival

After I mentioned using Harvest Festival foods for pets the other day, Zefram pointed out that doing the Harvest Festival quest Honoring a Hero gets you a Bounty of the Harvest, which summons bread. Very handy if you have a bread-eating pet! Since two of my Alliance alts have bread-eating pets (a windserpent and a crab), I decided I’d better do the quest with those characters.

But alas, it was not to be. A quick flight to Ironforge with Kaet later I found out that the quest is only available to characters level 30+ — and Kaet is only 28. And I wasn’t in any mood to grind two levels, given that the Harvest Festival ended today. But hey, there’s still my windserpent-hunter/bank-alt, a level 40 Draenei.

So my Draenei makes the long journey from her hometown of Darnassus to Ironforge, grabs a tribute for Uther Lightbringer, flies to Chillwind Camp, carefully navigates the hills (avoiding deadly, deadly undead) and makes it relatively unscathed to Uther’s Tomb. She places the tribute on the floor before the monument and … nothing happens. Well, the tribute disappears and there’s a bright light, but no Uther and worse yet, no quest completion.

At first I think that perhaps I don’t remember how the quest works and I just need to go back to the guy in Ironforge. So I do that, but he’s still asking if I’ve delivered the tribute yet. So I abandon the quest and try again. Run, fly, run, dodge undead, kneel … and nothing.

And this point I get smart and check the WoW Bug Report forum. And there it is, right at the top: for some reason, the quest Honoring a Hero is bugged and uncompletable by both Draenei and Blood Elves. There’s no work-around — those races are just out of luck. I went ahead and filed an in-game ticket just in case there was something a GM could do, but the rueful GM who showed up half an hour later confirmed that he or she was also powerless to help.

So there you are — no horn of infinite Harvest Bread for me! Not on the characters that need it, anyway. My main, Mania, has the horn, but since she’s a cat hunter it doesn’t do her much good.

Well, if it makes you feel better… its a stinking 4 pieces of bread with a 12 hour cooldown. WHICH, just like mage water/food, will disappear upon logout after X amount of time.

IMO, not really worth it. I wish Blizz would make it more useful. :(

But that really stinks that you can’t do the quest as those 2 races. So sad. :(

yes, very sad, bad what is worst is the half day cooldown…

Uh? Isn’t the harvest festival only in the PTR now? Is it on LIVE realms as well? Dang. Will have to check later tonight (luckily things only change on Wednesday nights in European realms so I’ll have tonight to do the quest… Sure, it has it’s drawbacks (only 4 pieces, 12 h cd), BUT, it can be a nice “oops: I ran out of food” type of backup device! And Someone is using a boar right now with no plans to change! :)

Harvest festival is live, Brewfest is on test (perhaps coming out today?). And don’t forget Hollow’s End coming soon too.

My crab loves his free food, but at level 70 it only grants 17 happiness/tick, so it’s even half as useful. At least they lowered the cooldown to 12 from 24 hours. I’m still hopeful that I can get that Everlasting Underspore Frond ( http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28111 ). Someday I’ll get to run an instance again…

that underspore pod is the best reward I ever got in a dungeon, free food for both health and mana! I have absolutely no economical qualms about spending it, ’cause there’ll be 20 more each day… gotta love sporeggar

The biggest problem I have with the Everlasting Underspore Frond is that it’s a group quest in a dungeon. It seems the perfect sort of reward for a nice solo chain, to me.

I got one in beta where I was willing to PUG to get at the new pets, but I’m not willing to go to that trouble on live. Admittedly, that’s my problem. :>

The Bounty of the Harvest, on the other hand, is quick and simple and low-level … and seasonal, which is a pity. But it feels a lot more reasonable to me, given the actual reward.

Anyway, the Harvest Festival is over now — and as I type this I am waiting for the realms to come back up so I can start working towards my Brewfest Ram!

@mania: if you check here, it looks as if it’s not that hard to solo that quest: you don’t need a boss down, only loot something behind one! So, a bit of time, some invisibility pots and maybe a death at the end, and you got your very own Everlasting Underspore Frond!
