Patch 2.2.0 Is Live!

Patch 2.2.0 is now available for download! … Although as I type this, the realms are not yet back up, nor are the patch notes posted. But when they do get around to posting the patch notes, you will be able to find them in the normal Current Patch Notes spot. In the meantime, let’s look at some of the highlights of this patch, as well as the bits of interest to hunters.

Highlights:

  • Voice chat, plus a new chat channel UI.
  • The Mac client can now capture in-game video to QuickTime movie files.
  • AFK debuff in battlegrounds.

Hunter & Pet Items:

General:

  • Pets are now affected by Paladin greater blessings.
  • Kill Triggered Effects: Effects that trigger from killing your target will no longer trigger from killing your pet.
  • Cyclone: Paladin Auras, Trueshot Aura, and Aspect of the Pack will now be automatically reactivated when Cyclone wears off of a victim who had one of the abilities active.

Hunters:

  • Aspect of the Cheetah: This ability will now cause Hunters to become dazed when struck while sitting.
  • Aspect of the Pack: This ability will now cause party members to become dazed when struck while sitting.
  • Aspect of the Viper: This ability has received a slight redesign. The amount of mana regained will increase as the Hunter’s percentage of mana remaining decreases. At about 60% mana, it is equivalent to the previous version of Aspect of the Viper. Below that margin, it is better (up to twice as much mana as the old version); while above that margin, it will be less effective. The mana regained never drops below 10% of intellect every 5 sec. or goes above 50% of intellect every 5 sec.
  • Freezing Trap and Scare Beast duration against PvP targets has been reduced to 10 seconds.
  • Hunter’s Mark: The duration remaining graphic will now display properly for Hunter’s Mark after it has been refreshed on a target, and will properly consume mana when recasting it to refresh its duration.
  • Kill Command will not charge the hunter mana if their pet is on passive.
  • Kill Command no longer affects the Hunter’s current target.
  • Misdirection: Items used while Misdirection is active will now consume a charge correctly.
  • Steady Shot: The tooltip stating the percentage of Attack Power gained by Steady Shot was inaccurate and has been corrected. The damage remains unchanged.
  • Volley: This spell is now affected by area damage caps. Its bonus damage coefficients have also been increased. It also correctly consumes charges of Misdirection.
  • Hunter Pets
    • Raptors can now learn Dash.

Items:

  • Formula: Enchant Gloves - Superior Agility: This enchanting recipe is now available from the Keepers of Time Quartermaster. The reagents required have been adjusted to match the level 70 content.
  • Formula: Enchant Weapon - Greater Agility: This enchanting recipe is now available from the Violet Eye vendor.
  • Leggings of Beast Mastery: The stamina and armor granted by this item for your pet have been increased.
  • Rift Stalker Armor: The pet healing set bonus now heals for a percentage of damage dealt by the Hunter.
  • Trappings of the Unseen Path Set: The buff on your pet from this set bonus will no longer appear to be constantly running out and refreshing.

World Environment:

  • Arcane Missiles: When cast by creatures, this spell will now properly cause activation of pets set to defensive mode.
  • Skettis Windwalker: The Cyclone effect from this creature can now be cleared by PvP trinkets and Bestial Wrath/The Beast Within.
  • Void Reaver: The Arcane Orb ability used by this creature will now correctly Daze players affected by Aspect of the Pack or Aspect of the Cheetah.

Bug Fixes

  • Pets will no longer chase players that Vanish.
  • Pets no longer follow enemies after being revived.

In addition, we also know from the Public Test Realm that there are at least a few other important hunter pet changes:

  • Nethermine Ravagers can now be tamed.
  • Scorpid Poison Rank 5 has changed slightly, and Scorpid Poison in general now benefits from the hunter’s Ranged Attack Power at a much lower scale.
  • Dismiss taming, in which you could merely dismiss a current pet to tame a new one instead of abandoning it, no longer functions.

Just a tip, Mania: When you get the initial patch download, as I did this morning before the realms come up, it includes patch.html (current patch only) and patch.txt (ALL patch notes, including current). These files are found in your main \worldofwarcraft folder.

Feel free to add one more: the annoying pet bar not showing when dismount dazed appeared to be fixed on the 2.2 PTR…

I still have some pet bar issues, so far.

I tamed a few critters tonight to get new skills and everytime I did it failed to pop up the new pet bar, so I had to do the old faithful of going in and turning of Blizzard’s own action bars, and then hope I could turn the bar back on, which sometimes doesn’t work as well. I have yet to see it do the half in half out bar that it was doing there for a while.

An unpleasant change I found last night — the reputation-based ammo from Honor Hold (and presumably from CE as well) is now bind-on-pickup. No more stocking up, mailing excess stacks to an alt, and then mailing them back for easy pickup at any mailbox.

Before patch we could dismiss a pet and tame another without having to visit the stable and have the dismissed pet automatically placed in the stable. Since the patch update this is no longer happening, so back to the old way of leaving pet in stable and travelling petless or with a disposable pet to pick up new pet skills. :(

“An unpleasant change I found last night - the reputation-based ammo from Honor Hold (and presumably from CE as well) is now bind-on-pickup.”

I think it’s a fair change and how it should have been from the start! If others want that ammo, do the rep for it. And there are a few more things that should be done such as Binding leggings and shoulders when applying one of those high-level enchants: since they don’t have to be done by a “specialist” the same way a chant has to, the one doing them should bind that gear to them…

Boy, what a mess that new patch was. Not necessarily the features they added, just the implementation itself. For starters, I lost my macros and had to recreate them all. When I joined in my Kara team, I saw that all of my raid bars (for those who are not on my team) stacked in the middle of my screen and simply would not budge. I ended up having to reset my UI and that of course wiped out my macros (again) along with my mods, which I might add would not load until you checked the “load out-of-date mods” option. Then, the entire server reset, kicking us all, which lead to this…

My friends team all got kicked and were STUCK in Kara, unable to login to the game. One of them logged in with an alt and opened a ticket for his main. They helped him but said that each person would have to log in under an alt and request their own ticket. Gee, how helpful. So, they all did that, and they each logged in to find themselves dead, some had as much as an 18g repair bill and Attumen and the ads were all gone. Not dead and lootable, just… gone.

They opened a ticket and when I logged off after killing Attumen with my team, they still had not heard from support.

Messyah: There was a lot of that going on yesterday, and I even know of several folks who had the strange experience of logging into characters that were camped in a town, resting, only to find themselves with a full set of red armor for some reason. Oh happy repair bills! This happened on both my hunter and my shaman, for example. The GM I spoke to was not at all helpful, doing everything but calling me a liar for my woes. Hopefully others reported it as well, so that they know it was not an isolated incident.

But oh happy day, monstrous kaliri now make sense to kill, and chests in Outlands are worth opening! And the greater blessings from pallys now also affects our dear pets, about time! I also like the new version of aspect of the viper, it makes it worth it to change aspect to get a mana boost.

I think it’s a fair change and how it should have been from the start! If others want that ammo, do the rep for it.

But the ammo already had a rep requirement for use. All the change did was make it impossible, as I mentioned, to buy a lot of it and then mail it to an alt for later returning. In other words, more frequent trips to HH/Thrallmar or Cenarion Refuge.

  12. Messyah - September 26th, 2007 @ 9:14 am EDT

The ammo in Halaa was already BoP. I know because I “picked up” a ton of it for a friend prior to a raid, just to find out that I didn’t read the fine print. LOL

They could have made it so they require rep to use them instead of making them BoP.

  13. Trogdaar - September 26th, 2007 @ 6:42 pm EDT

I hear Arikara is no longer summoned in a puff of smoke and stuff as of patch 2.20. can anyone confirm this? im an ally hunter and was getting a buddy of mine to summon it for me. i also heard that the barking wolves days are numbered too.

  14. Trogdaar - September 26th, 2007 @ 6:42 pm EDT

EDIT: for the hunters that tame it AFTER the patch - ones tamed before might still work [idk]

  15. Legend - September 27th, 2007 @ 7:14 am EDT

also wondering about Arikara. Heard of the stealth nerf. I wanna know why blizz made all pets the same other than the base +/-% to certain stats (by family). That took all the uniqueness out of the game. I liked my 1.3 spd Rake back in the day…

  16. Mania - September 27th, 2007 @ 8:27 am EDT

Re: Arikara — I tested Arikara on the 2.2 PTR and he was still poofing, but it’s possible they made a change later. I can check out the barking pups much more easily, so I’ll take a look at that as soon as I can.

More worrisome to me is the rumors I’ve been hearing about aggro generation from pets changing — both up and down, depending on the pet level maybe? Probably it’s just patch day instabilities, but I worry about aggro a lot. :>

  17. Dvalin - September 29th, 2007 @ 4:26 am EDT

I saw a hunter with Arikara the other day and he had just been tamed him, I’m not 100% on wether it was the day before or after the patch though but I’m out to tame him on my orc hunter too so I’ll let you know.
