Mania’s Arcania Back in Business
I have arrived! And Florida is even hotter and wetter than I remembered. (Both my husband and I were born and raised in Central Florida, so this area is no surprise to us. But we left here about seven years ago to pursue our careers, and a couple of years in California will really spoil you climate-wise.) Also, it is oddly more Southern than I remember …
The trip was largely uneventful, except that my husband injured himself loading our stuff and I injured myself unloading it, and that plus too many days of driving has left us in need of a vacation. :> Thankfully we have friends on each end of the trip who were happy to help. (I’m good, but even I can’t manuever a king-sized mattress alone.) I’m still wading through all the moving tangentials, like car registration and whatnot, but I should be able to get back into the flow of WoW hunter pets starting today or tomorrow. I also have way too many e-mail messages and comments to dig through, so please pardon me if it takes a little bit to respond.
I also see that Patch 2.2 did not make it live while I was gone. *sigh* So I could have just skipped the 2.2 changes on Petopia and saved some confusion. Ah, well. But I do see that the PTR just updated with Patch 2.2.2 (Brewfest, apparently) which might imply that 2.2 is going live this week. We’ll see.
Random highlights from the trip:
- Time zones get weird in Arizona, since that state apparently doesn’t observe Daylight Saving Time.
- There is too much Texas. West Texas is quite lovely, but there needs to be rather less of it. In addition, the town we stopped at was in the middle of a plague of crickets. That’s just creepy.
- It turns out to be difficult to find (dry, undamaged, available) hotel rooms on the Gulf Coast right after a hurricane. Luckily it was only a small hurricane and we managed to miss it completely.
- If you have to travel with a pet, a bearded dragon is just about perfect. She slept the entire trip in a small box. This was especially useful in El Paso when we stopped for lunch at a nice restaurant and didn’t want her to overheat in the car. We just put her box inside a duffel bag and took her in with us.

YAY! good to know you got to your new home ok, really missed your insight, just began exploring Outland with my Hunter and loving it!
Welcome…home! Good to see you’ve made it relatively unscathed. Hope your injuries heal soon!
Oh yeah, i want to see America by my eyes some time… more and more reading about USA makes me to want live there… and i always thought that Florida is great, congratulation for your new home at great place as Florida is. (and sorry for my bad english, as you find, i am not from any english speaking country, i am from Czech Republic, so learning english is a bittle harder for me :-) )
Welcome home! :)
Yep, I can’t imagine living anywhere outside of California, more specifically the SF bay area. I was born here and I am just a tad spoiled by the climate here. If I try to go anywhere that is much warmer or cooler I get grumpy =P
Glad to heat you made it safely. Hope you settle down down =)
Or even settle down soon… Dôh.
@Mania: Welcome back!
@Jayhawk: That wasn’t your only only mistake on the first comment! :)
@Jayhawk: and it get’s contagious or so it seems! (“only only”??)
I weelcam Mannea bac wit kno speelin erorz en mi poast.
Mmm .. poast … now I want breakfast! *grin*
Kestrel: Thanks. :> We’ll be fine, though — just a lot of strained muscles plus a sprain. Gives me an excuse to stay in bed.
Beran: Your English isn’t that bad. :> And I am glad that I got an opportunity to drive across the US. I would have enjoyed going a bit further north (we hugged the Mexico border most of the way) but … maybe we can do that next time we change coasts. (Unfortunately when I moved out to CA I had to fly.)
Xalias: We were in the East Bay area for about 6 months, but it was too far inland for me — too hot and humid to be perfect. We worked in SF itself, and it was cooler there — too cold a lot of the time, in fact. :> In San Diego we were about two miles from the coast, on a hilltop, which was perfect (but also very expensive).
Our main reason for moving away from San Diego was to try to cut living expenses so we can focus on our business, but we chose Orlando because we have family here.
Me and my boyfriend are both avid wow players. As a warrior, and him a holy pally, we are of cours running a 2v2 team.
Note, boyfriend: I am not a girl. let’s just leave it at that, shall we?
He also bought an infinite amount of the darkmoon faire beer and drinks it. every time he logs in. This has led to hilarity, since that particular beer makes mobs appear two levels higher then they are. many spottings of “Level 72 elites” Have been found.
Just something I posted on your leaving post and felt like re-posting.
Blech, Central Florida FTW. -.-
Guess I’m moving to California.
Hey there! Welcome to sunny/rainy Orlando. Some day it will get cooler.. Maybe around the end of December… For a few weeks anyway.
