Kaet: Back to Redridge

(You can read all of Kaet’s adventures by checking out the series Table of Contents at the end of this post.)

Last time I went off on a little design diatribe about fishing and quests that make you run too far. But what I didn’t notice was that while killing all those murlocs, I picked up the quest for Captain Sander’s Hidden Treasure. So tonight I headed off to find the treasure!

I also had to swing by the Westfall Lighthouse to turn in the final quest there, so I started my search for the first clue (a huge rusty anchor near a shipwreck) at the south end of the coastline. The first murloc I ran into pushed Niffis up to level 17, which was nice. And then the first shipwreck I came to had a huge anchor and the Captain’s footlocker … but it was well-guarded. While I was clearing the area, I was surprised by Brack and Slark, rare twin murlocs who took me down without any trouble. Getting ambushed by two rares at once was bad luck, I suppose. Normally I’d be happy to see these two — preferably one at a time. Unfortunately they were gone by the time I ran back, but I did get a new clue out of the footlocker.

This clue sent me east to the ruins of a chimney along the road. No problem there – the ruins were right where they should be. I did have to wonder, though, how long that broken barrel had been sitting there with a simple clue in it. You’d think someone would have ransacked it for milk by now and found the clue. This clue sent me north to a windmill on the bluffs, where I found a small jug with a clue that sent me straight west, into the sea. It was quite a swim, but eventually I reached an island with a locked chest and claimed my prize:  Captain Sander’s Shirt! There was some other stuff as well (a silver bar, an 8-slot bag, a green belt), but it was the shirt I wanted.

That finished up everything I needed to do in Westfall, so I headed off to Redridge. I took the opportunity to swap out the white crab, Niffis, for my blue crab, Frore. Frore was only level 15 yet so he needed some attention. But despite that, I started right in on a fishing quest. *shrug* That went smoothly. Then it was off to kill some more gnolls are take their … rivets?! Well, okay. And so, stealing rivets left and right, I reach level 19 and Frore reaches level 16!

Next I decided to head north, up the road towards the Burning Steppes. But after getting walloped twice in 30 seconds by a big group of hidden Blackrock Outrunners, I decided that discretion is the better part of valor and I probably wasn’t supposed to be up there yet anyway. I had a quest to kill Blackrocks, but the quest text mentioned that there was a group of them in the southeast as well, so I decided to head that way — but tomorrow. I was done for the evening.

  1. My first foray into Burning Steppes was on my first character: a human mage: I had a mage quest to go to Loch Modan and it seemed the proper way to get there! I later dropped that one for a druid instead and only then did I found that there was actually an underway travel between Stormwind and Ironforge! :) I was a bit upset at Blizzard for giving me a low level quest that I couldn’t complete! That was before I first learned about thottbot, although I now use LightHeaded and Wowhead instead… :)

You should try Lightheaded: it’s a bit “cheating” in that you get, in-game, the comments that are in wowhead about the quests plus coordinates and a waypoint signaling where to go next, but it’s a type of “cheating” that I do as I have limited time to play, so if I spend less time running around trying to find things (and some quests can be really cryptic about where to find stuff!), then I get to play more and travel less…

  2. I have fond memories of the Blackrock Champions near the burning steppes. The first time there I was getting owned by them and a kindly mage came along to help me. I joined her guild shortly thereafter and 2.5 years later that char is still in that guild – I’d prolly never stepped foot anywhere hear MC let alone gotten a full set of T1 without that group. During my latest encounter with the Blackrock Chumps with my dwarf hunter a Sentry Cloak dropped and I won the roll. Even though it is a highly prized 10-19 twink item, I equipped it and used it for many a level – although, the 100 or so gold it might have fetched in the AH would have come in handy a few times.

  3. I have dreadful memories of trying to kill 20 Blackrock Champions with a hunter of sufficient level but a lower level pet that I was trying to bring up to speed at the time. I bumped into a priest and we formed a group which I wiped over and over and over because my Ravager couldn’t hold the aggro.
After lots of profuse apologies, she forgave me, I offered to pay for her repairs, she logged back on with her 70 main and helped me dance on plenty of Orc graves :)

  4. First time posting, even tough i visit this blog since it was created and petopia some time ago when i found the link in the european official forums.

I’m posting just to let you know that you inspired me with “Kaet’s adventures”. So, i created a Tauren hunter in Darkmoon Faire (european WoW RP server) and i intend to play him to is fullest. I’ve already decided his pets ( a raptor – Corrupted Bloodtalon Scythemaw – i particularly like this skin, and with your recent addition to Petopia – “Pets with Special Behaviors” – i choose a Prairie Wolf – just for the bark ^_^).

All this to say i really like Kaet’s adventures and your blog aswell.

Keep up the good work and best regards to you.

P.S. –> pardon the wall of text and any missspelling (english is not my primary language, i’m portuguese :)

  5. I’m a warrior, but this blog, along with big red kitty, has not only improved my anti-kite abilities, but helped me help my hunter allies aswell.

As an aside, all mechanical (I assume) Mobs are immune to growl and the like. Their robots, a growl isn’t going to affect them.

Anyway, I am on a 5v5 team which has a BM hunter, and I understand the hunter class much better. now. I LOOK FORWARD TO KILLING ALL YOU ALLIANCE HUNTERS SOON, SO SAYS GONG, TAUREN MS WARRIOR! ALL HEADS BOW BEFORE ME!

    Oh, right, sorry.

  6. Someone: Thanks for the suggestion about Lightheaded. I tend to have several browser windows open as I play, looking up locations (as well as reading blogs and forums). But I’ll have to check it out.

Nuno: That’s great! You’ll have to tell us how it goes for you! Or blog about it. :>

Gong: Heh, no problem. :> About mechanicals and Growl — you know, I have no idea. This is the first time I noticed it, but it’s not like a pay a lot of attention to Growl.
