PTR 2.2.0: Level 70 Ravager!
Good news for hunters in Patch 2.2.0 — we now have access to a level 70 ravager! The Nethermine Ravager was introduced in Patch 2.1.0 but could not be tamed (and still can’t as of 2.1.3 — I just checked). But on the PTR, this beautiful but deadly creature is just waiting for a loving master.
I don’t have the Nethermine Ravager info up on Petopia yet, but here are the basics:
- The Nethermine Ravager is level 70.
- It can be found in the Netherwing Mines area of Shadowmoon Valley.
- It uses the “crawlerorange” skin, like the Ravager Specimen.
- It does not come knowing any innate skills when it is tamed.
This significantly increases the number of easily available level 70 pets — and adds access to one of the most popular pet families above level 63. I am very excited!

*groans/laughs* And I just finished getting my Ravager Specimen to 58! Ahh, well, At least I found out NOW, instead of when I’d sunk another 7 levels into it.
You should probably note these lil buggers are a pain to get: they’re in the cave past an elite and a bunch of angry Murkblood Miners who’re happy to stab you in the face unless you’ve started your reputation grind with Netherwing, and they’re needed for one of the Netherwing dailies so they’re generally either farmed out or surrounded by a ton of excruciatingly deadly enemies.
My method, which I admit doesn’t always work, is to fly into the mine on my flying mount. The elite at the entrance somehow misses me zipping past her face more often than not. The mount disappears a few seconds later, at which point I hope that I am far enough along to outrun the murkbloods. This is the part I have the most trouble with. :> But if I get past the murkbloods, the rest is relatively easy: I take the raised railbed, take the right-hand path when it splits, and it circles around into a chamber with flayers and wandering ravagers. I can see where this would be nasty on a heavily populated server, though, since there are only a few ravagers who wander through.
Well, it’s very nice to have another level 70 pet out there. With that said, I’m not a fan of the ravager’s looks. However, I saw a model skin of a new cat in Zul’Aman on the worldofraids.com website: http://www.worldofraids.com/news/tigergem.jpg. I was wondering if you had any inside info about it. Is it a new tamable cat? Is it a lvl 71 or higher mob? Or am I just going to have to be jealous of some jewelcrafting trinket pet?
Thanks for the links, Korth! The gem tiger skin has been showing up in the WoW Model Viewer for some time, and I’d assumed that it was used for the jewelcrafting trinket (as I understand it, the Nightseye Panther figurine summons a small pet cat for 15 seconds when used). But I’ve never bothered to verify that, so I can’t be certain.
And even if it is currently used for the figurine, they could also be planning to use it in Zul’Aman as well — it is a very cool skin.
Thanks for the trinket link. I’ve found a screenshot of that pet on wowhead: http://www.wowhead.com/?screenshot=view&3.24128#17119 . I’ve just taken a look at the Tigergem model in WoW model viewer and it’s definitely a different skin. Although knowing Blizzard has changed the skin models on pets before, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it again. For a slightly less dark version of the tigergem model (for those that may be interested) look at this: http://img522.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tigergem3vu5.png
Let’s hope that this will be for a new tamable pet!
Yup, that’s definitely not the gem skin on the Nightseye Panther. Thanks for clarifying that — I had always just assumed. :> Well, that could mean a new cat skin then! I can’t wait to see.
Why do they make the most ugly skin variant of Ravagers easily tameable while they made my beautiful purple owl freely avaiable as well *mumbles* - to acually have a good looking Ravager you still have to level one from at least level 63 - btw. its the first time I am not happy, that my pet changes colors, but I really like the Rip Blade Ravager’s unique purple+orange skin, which seems to be the rarest when calling the pet *looks sad*
Btw. I wish ravagers all had the nice litlle summersault attack animation for specials like the Nethermine Ravager mobs. That looks soooooooo cool.
I’m very happy that we are getting another level 70 pet to tame. The only thing I regret is Blizzard’s choice of skin color. If I’m not mistaken, up until now the only way to have that color skin was if you leveled your ravager up from level 10. Having that skin color unique to a level 10 ravager made it feel somewhat special. Oh well, at least the level 70 tallstrider wasn’t pink. That would have completely destroyed my level 66 female dwarf hunter who tamed Mazzranache as her first pet and still has Sweetpea as her main pet today.
Thats great! Im still a little old fashioned though. When will Bears get a skill!!!!!!
Calabar: I tend to agree. I would have prefered one of the higher level skins — or better yet, I see several skins in the WoW Model Viewer that haven’t been used yet as far as I know. Here’s my favorite: a nice aqua ravager. :>
Rodney: I wish I knew.
ROAR…as i asked a gamemaster, if it is a bug, they said my, it works like intended…ah yes, leveled a 63 ravager to 70… and now thy are changing this. Go to hell, Blizzard…
Personally, I would LOVE to see that aqua ravager skin used! And I really don’t want to level my 63 ravager up just to use in PVP while using my Warpstalker as my main (I’m Survival spec… I survive, my offense type pets don’t). I just really loath that orange colour… makes it look like he’s wearing a Hazmat suit, or just came from eating Gordon Freeman’s intestines.
Agreed, it’s good to see another lvl70 pet that is usefull to tame.
Bad side, on a personal note; Just got my green ravager to 70, “great” to see it done for nothing hehe. But hey, if this keeps up, we might see a boar at 70ish soon aswell as I as of yesterday made a third attempt at leveling a RFD boar (armored looks) again.
As for bears, never had one and thats sad I admit.
As for petlevel, as it seems Blizzard wants us to use more of the current “flora” of pets, I don’t see a problem with newly tamed pets either getting a faster way to gain level or gain the level of the hunter. Another issue with “old” pets you have to abandon is (atleast for the active user of the pets) the penalty for “respeccing” the pets.
As Blizzard keeps implementing new skills, new dungeons etc, its hard to -not- respec a pet. Eventually making it too hard to keep wellfed and thus abandoned. I still have my sian rotam, respecced too many times i yet can abandon it due to its rarity on a PVP server alliance side.
Perhaps a higher cost for respeccing but with no penalty to the amount of food needed to keep happinesslevel?
Perhaps an item that costs alot that increases the pets xp gain ability alot?
Few things ive been thinking about.
Shan, are you saying that respecing a pet affects how much food it requires to stay happy? I hadn’t heard that before. I’d love to know more about it.
Mania, when you talk to a pet trainer about respecing read what the trainer has to say. it will let you know that the more often you respec a pet the harfer it is to keep it “Happy”.
I’m sorry, that came out a bit wrong. What I meant was that as it is now, everytime you reset your pets skills at your local pettrainer (in order to get, example, avoidance rank2) your pet will not stay “happy” as long as prior to the resetting. If it means that the total amount of points happy means (”your pet gains 35 happiness” points, the total amount of points down to the border to normal) is lower or the fallrate of points is higher - I dont know.
Carlos: Oh hey! You’re right. I had just assumed that that text was flavor text to explain why the cost of the respec goes up.
Shan: I can verify that the amount of happiness your pet gets from each tick of food doesn’t go down after a lot of respecs. I need to do some more testing to see if the amount of time it takes the happiness to wear off goes up, though.
You know, I’ve seen a bunch of neat pet skins in the model viewer, and I’m curious why Blizzard won’t implement them? The gem cat is by far my favorite one, and I’d bet many hunters (including me) would jump through hoops to get a shot at taming that pet. There’s also a number of beautiful skins for the Warpstalker, and a lovely ice-blue skin for the cat. It wouldn’t be too hard to implement, either, if they changed the look of some already-implemented tameable mobs. For example, take the Winterspring Stalker and change it’s target skin from “tigerskinnostripewhite” to “tigerskinice”.
Another bonus to this? It would make it a heck of a lot easier to find those certain mobs for quests. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve killed those Saltstone Crystalhides when I should have been killing the Saltstone Gazers.
I’d also like to see some skins similar to the boars in Razorfang Kraul: armor!
Anbhas: I would really prefer that they didn’t change the skin of pets that people have already tamed. They did that once by accident (and quickly fixed it), but we saw that previously-tamed pets also changed. But I would be pleased if, say, they replaced half the Winterspring Stalkers with Ice Stalkers that used a new skin, or something like that. The ice cat is probably my favorite skin that isn’t available in the game yet.
But hey, they added black and brown owls — skins that had been sitting around since launch — in the last expansion. So maybe we’ll get some of the unused skins next expansion as well.
Tiiaa - I tried a ravager shortly after the expansion was released and it did have that spinning attack animation then. I’m not sure when it was taken out, but the one I’ve tamed recently “for keeps” certainly doesn’t have it. I haven’t seen a tamed ravager use that animation lately. :/
how do i get to the WoW model viewer?
nvm, got it.
I wish that there wer level 1 to 30 Warpstakers:(
still waiting on a boar over 60… and looks good..
grabed a 26 boar from RFD to replace my plague swine.. got him to 54 sofar….. >.
I wanted to point out, for those who don’t know, that if you’ve gone through the Netherwing quest lines and gotten to the dailies that the elite outside the mine and some of the mobs inside are neutral. This requires completing the Netherwing questline in SMV and having the epic riding skill.
[...] Nethermine Ravagers can now be tamed. [...]
the easiesr way to enter the mines and pass elite at entrance and most of mobs is to drink a lesser invisibility potion and then take the left hand branch once inside the mine. the mobs are much more easily dealt with then.
forgot to add that i wasnt nuetral and didnt have the epic flying mount
someone plzzz link the icy cat skin? I just got model viewer and idk how to find it lol please link
