There are so many reasons to choose your pet. Besides pet skills affecting your playing style, the pet´s appearance is most important to the hunters I met. Some go for the unique skins or the unique behaviour like the dramatic appearance of Arikara.

With putting the wolf family to the Orcs you made a popular move: Choose the pet to match your mount.

When I started my Orc Hunter I dug through petopia, skipped through nearly every skin and read the comments. The outcome was to drop my fellow scorpid Sarkoth (I can easily get him back in shadowmoon valley, if I will ever see it) and go for the gorgeous Ghost Saber. Next step was to visit Razorfen Kraul to get one of the armoured pigs. I choose the Rotting Aga´mar because of the black skin.

Some time later I found myself hanging out in Stranglethorn - curiously getting repelled by the boar´s armour?! After making up my mind I finally got the clue: Because it had some light blue ornaments on it. How could i stand my pet carrying around the colours of the enemy?

So I hesitated no second, returned to the Barrens and headed straight for Razorfen. This time I tamed a Raging Aga´mar. The skin somehow looks like an old buffer, but the armour is the point at issue: Bright red ornaments, that´s the best pet so far to match the horde!

While the Rotting Aga´mar is still highly considerable for Dwarfs and perhaps other Alliance chars I am highly pleased with my choice. And I got used to my new companion´s skin, considering him as some kind of war veteran...

Although this topic is old I hope you will read it. Just because I wanted to thank you for your nice work on petopia. It´s really helpful. I still usually visit the site, just to check for news. And keep up blogging please!

I like this list. While I am partial to my dwarf/cat team (something very satisfying about a miniature Viking running around with a giant sabertooth tiger haha), you've piqued my curiosity - what's your take on the draenei hunters? I see you paired them with the windserpents (and mentioned the dragonhawks in the bloodelf thread) - pairing them with the only pets who can look them in the eye? ;)

*nod* Perhaps I should do a second take on this based on what advice I might give to other hunters.

Night Elves + Ghost Saber = Double invisibilityness. I also think in general that cats fit night elves better than orcs, but I understand that you already have a 70 orc with the cat family, so I'll respect you for it. ^^

Anomis: If you wanted convenient pets, sure. :> When I am taming pets for myself, I tend to look for pets that require a lot of work to tame -- it's one of my failings. This list has a lot of inconvenient pets because it's made for me personally. These are certainly not the race/pet pairings I would suggest for most young hunters.
