In a comment on the Ghost Saber Gallery post, degbunke asked:
A little question: what does “spawned” mean in the list of cats on the site? Some of the other pets have “quest spawn” and “rare” after their names and lvls, and it’s quite obvious what that means, but “spawned”…? Is it something extra special or just a typo…?
So I thought I’d better explain.

I was surprised to learn that Patch 2.1.2 made it onto the live servers this morning. Normally it would be longer between me posting about what’s on the PTR and posting that it had gone live, but I was a bit out of things the past week or two. :> At any rate, you can find the official patch notes in the normal patch note location. It doesn’t look like there have been any major changes for hunter since the PTR notes I posted yesterday, so I’ll forgo posting them again.
The Ghost Saber Gallery is finally up on Petopia! Okay, it isn’t everything I was hoping to get done just yet – it only includes a few of the many great shots that you guys sent to me, it doesn’t have a mini-walkthrough on how to tame a Ghost Saber, and I wasn’t able to figure out how to fake a transparent Ghost Saber in the WoW Model Viewer. But at least it’s up!

In my absence last week I missed a new patch oing up on the Public Test Realm — patch 2.1.2. This isn’t a major content patch, but it does promise to fix some of the annoyances introduced with Patch 2.1. You can find the full Patch 2.1.2 notes here.
But here’s the stuff hunters will likely be most interested in:

Egad! Time just flies when you’re working hard! I had no idea it had been so long since my last post. Things are beginning to lighten up a little for us, although I’m unfortunately not making any headway on getting us moved. Still, I ought to have time to post some info here that’s come in over the past week, maybe respond to some of the new comments, and I’ll also see if I can get an update done on Petopia. We’ll see how the week goes. :>

I’m afraid I haven’t had a lot of time for Petopia or for this blog the past week or so. We’re in the final stages of QA on our first game and with just the two of us it’s a bit busy. Plus I’m also trying to get us moved cross-country in the near future. So I just haven’t had a lot of time. With that in mind, I thought it would be polite to let you know that I probably won’t be posting here or updating the site very much at all for a short while, and I am likely to take even longer than normal responding to e-mail. I’ll be back as soon as things lighten up a bit for me, and I’ll do my best to keep the site updated with any really big or exciting changes (although to be honest I don’t expect much until the next big patch). Thanks for your patience!
Today I want to share a little more random blathering about what I would do with WoW hunter pets if I had the opportunity. One important goal that I would like to see the pet system embrace is this: that all families of pets have enough active skills available so that hunters need to make a choice about which four active skills their pet should have. Now realistically, this means that each family needs six skills available. You’d think five would be enough, but Cower is already available to all pets and is so situational as to be safely ignored most of the time. So to foster real choice, let’s aim for six.

I’ve updated Petopia with a handful of pre-2.1 pets I’d missed previously and some correction and changes that readers have sent to me. (Example: Dreadfang Lurkers now have Bite 8 when tamed, not 9 — and I’ve had the wrong skin for them and Dreadfang Widows for quite some time, apparently.) I haven’t much WoW or Petopia time right now, I’m afraid, so this little update is probably all I’ll get to for this week. Things should loosen up next week after we send our casual game off to the publisher.

If you’ve recently untrained your main pet in order to get data on Cobra Reflexes, and then you decide to go out hunting Hawkbane, do NOT forget to re-train Growl. Or else you will be very confused, and then very sorry, and then very dead, all quite quickly.
A helpful reader (who did not unfortunately give me a name) wrote me recently to let me know that he was talking to a GM about the availability of ranks 5 and 6 of the pet skill Gore. I am not aware of any way for hunters to learn Gore 5 or Gore 6, but according to this GM, those skills are available in the game. So — if you’ve been holding out, if you just assumed everyone else knew also, if you know the special secret and you were just waiting for the right time to tell people — if, in short, you have any information on these skills — spill it!
(Rants about the methods and knowledge levels of GMs are understandable, but discouraged. Thanks. :>)
