Anyone Know This Cat?

Fenriswoelfin, a hunter from the German server Teldrassil, sent me a question yesterday that has me stumped. He saw a hunter with a very strange pet cat and he wanted to know where to get one for himself. Unfortunately, I’ve never seen this cat before in my life.

As you can see from the full screenshot (if you click the thumb below), the owner of the cat is level 15. He told Fenriswoelfin that he tamed the cat somewhere around Darnassus. He didn’t remember its original name or if it was a rare or elite mob, but he did say that the cat was a very low level when he tamed it.

So I’m stumped. Anyone know what this cat is and where to find it?

Update: Fenriswoelfin wrote back to let me know that he saw the hunter in the screenshot, Bayrum, again — and his cat is a perfectly normal nightsaber (and it always has been, says Bayrum, puzzled). So yes, this was just a weird texture loading blip. It was fun to chase down, though!

I had a wonderful surprise waiting for me in my e-mail today! Volcan sent this great header art he made for Petopia. Humar is apparently leaving a hint for all those young hunters who are constantly taming him. *grin*

Choosing Your First Pet: Mulgore

This article is part of a series for new hunters on choosing your first pet.

Mulgore is the homeland of the gentle Taurens. It’s also the only newbie area that is pretty well isolated from all the other newbie areas. (It’s not too bad getting to Durotar — just a hike across the Barrens — but unlike most of the racial homelands there are no other newbie areas that can be reached by zeppelin, boat, or tram. So for new hunters, Mulgore can feel a bit isolated.) Luckily, there are some good choices for a first pet right in Mulgore.

Maja: Deadzone Reduction and the First Nine Levels

It seems that the reduction of the dead zone has had an impressive (and welcome!) effect on the first nine levels of playing a hunter. After taking so many hunter characters through their first nine levels, I’ve gotten pretty good at it if I may say so myself, but … last night with Maja was the first time I’ve actually really enjoyed it!
